Nicole and Luke Baab bring accessibility, nostalgia, and a fresh approach to retro gaming in Central Virginia.

Owned by Nicole and Luke Baab, Retro Room has evolved through many forms since 2018, including online sales, pop‑ups, and community events. The new brick‑and‑mortar shop represents the culmination of years of growth and a shared mission: to make video games accessible to everyone.

The 1,050 sq ft retail space in Robious Hall Shopping Center (10060 Robious Road) features curated retro games, consoles, Pokémon, and accessories, all displayed in a clean, easy to navigate layout designed for browsing and discovery. Customers will find everything from nostalgic favorites to starter consoles for families just beginning their gaming journey. Online inventory will be added to the website in the future.

For Luke, the opening the store is a dream realized.

“Luke has been working towards this for more than 8 years.” Nicole said. “Whether it’s restoring consoles, organizing collections, or helping people find the games they grew up with, that creative spark has been there from the beginning. Retro Room is a way to share that joy with the community.”

The couple says Retro Room is intentionally designed to be approachable. It’s a place where anyone can walk in and feel comfortable exploring.

“We’ve heard so many stories from people about the games they loved growing up,” Luke said. “Parents picking out their kid’s first console, grandparents remembering what they played decades ago, those moments are why we built this. Retro gaming should feel fun and familiar.”

Retro Room also holds personal significance for the Baabs, who have spent years building the business together and shaping it into something their own family loves.

“Our kids have grown up around this,” Nicole added. “Creating a space that feels welcoming for families felt like the natural next step.”

Located in Midlothian, Retro Room joins a growing community of local businesses the Baabs admire and are excited to stand alongside.

Community involvement will remain a core focus, with plans to support local schools and youth‑centered programs.
